Do You Know Developing A Resume?



1 Outline: The margins for the page when making resume should be equal and you should try to fit in the content in center alignment. Justified content solves the purpose as the space is utilized properly in this setting.

2 Font Face: The font face you use should be a standard one and stick to the same font face throughout. For example, Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri are the generally used font faces. As for the font size, anything between 10- to 12-point is sufficient provided you do not extend the length of your resume unnecessarily.

When you are putting your name in the resume, like a header, you can use a bigger font size (bigger by two points, maximum being 14).

3 Contact Details: While giving this detail, you are free to use formatting a little. You may put your name in bold and capitals; but this is in case when you align it in the center. On the contrary when you align your name and contact details on one side, left or right, it is better to stick to just typing your name in bold.

4 Objective: This is the most important section of a resume. In the objective section you make a statement to the employer about your expectation and talk about what you have to offer them.


5 History: While writing for this section use the reverse chronological order. You may put in all your experiences, be it paid or volunteered work, as long as it is relevant and serves the purpose of catching the employer’s attention.

You may fill in details of full as well as part-time work, internships, projects, etc. Also give importance to the special skills and accomplishments. Here you can further categorize your experiences as related, additional, etc.

6 References: This section of the resume is ideally given in the end or you can strategically place it at the end of the first page, in case your resume is longer than a page. It depends whether you wish to provide the references’ details or wish to furnish it upon request.

7 Activities: This section is for the co-curricular activities you are involved in, but try to include this section only if there is relevant information for the recruiter. If you think your involvement in some uncommon activities will be useful to rouse interest you may mention it.

8 Professional Experience: State the details of the designation you held in the organization. It should be accompanied with the dates, i.e. joining and relieving dates. Make sure you are consistent with the sequence of details you enlist for every job experience.

You have to mention the skills you utilized and your accomplishments as well. Use bullets for increasing the readability.
